Dale Hardiman + ACV Studio: Pin #1 Claire Beale
Materials: Brass, Marineer Shell
Dimensions: 77(l) x 86(w) mm
Friends are a collection of pins designed and made by ACV Studio from conversations and materials shared with Dale Hardiman from other creative friends from Tasmania and greater Australia.
The Friends pins are a reminder that although during COVID we have been physically separated, we are a supportive community of creative practitioners. The pins can be worn day-to-day, or during video calls as a symbol of sharing and community during isolation.
"This tiny shell was accidentally acquired by me on my first visit to Green’s Beach in Northern Tasmania - I found it stuck in the sole of my sneaker when I got home. Marineer shells are gathered for use in traditional shell necklace making by palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) artists. Shell-stringing is the longest uninterrupted community and cultural practice in Tasmania and holds deep significance for palawa people as this key practice withstood invasion and incarceration. The shell acts as an aide-memoire re the importance of persistence in the face of challenge."
