David Hamilton: Wood Chip Brooch
A uniquely cast piece, the Woodchip Broach features one of five sterling silver chips. The original woodchips were moulded in silicon rubber and cast using the lost wax process with solid 925 sterling silver. The Tasmanian sterling silver woodchip jewellery pieces become the crystallised memory of a forest giant, both a fragment of a tree and a fragment of the Tasmanian landscape.
Hamilton has individually selected 5 fragments from a mountain of wood chips at Longreach in Northern Tasmania. Giant trees have been felled to create these massive piles of forest wood chips and by casting these in 925 sterling silver, Hamilton captures a memory of the forest, both as a fragment of the Tasmanian landscape and a fragment of a tree.
All pieces come beautifully boxed with a cleaning cloth.
