Alfred Buchinger

Alfred was born in Ansbach, Germany, where he did his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker / joiner. He was a journeyman from 1983-85, undertaking different kinds of work and learning new skills from a range of masters throughout central Europe.

 

Alfred and his wife emigrated to Tasmania in 1987, establishing his cabinetmaking business initially in Launceston, and moving it to his mountain residence near Lilydale in 2000. He focuses on the creation of new furniture using Tasmanian timbers.

He continues the journeyman tradition, regularly bringing young apprentices form Europe to live and work with him.
